At Earth's General Store we offer visitors information and products that will help them reduce their ecological and social impact on the planet and all inhabitants. We are a distributor of information and knowledge, encouraging people to consume less, consume wisely, consume locally and love lots more! We do this by offering items that have beneficial advantages - local, certified organic, Fair Trade Certified. We are attempting to offer a way of life that is balanced and respectful of the planet and all its creatures. I know this sounds a little wishy washy but I believe that is our ultimate goal in life - do as little harm as possible and leave the world better than when we arrived. June 14th, 2010Earlier this spring I started some seedlings of Maridolds and Calendula so that I could plant them in the boulevard on Whyte Avenue - to brighten it up. I cared for these seedlings for many weeks and last Sunday I spent about 6 hours planting and watering them. Unfortunately I failed these plants. I did not put up a barricade or signage to alert the city crews that they were there (which I had planned to do yesterday and failed to do so and it was on my list of thigns to do today). Unfortauntely when I arrived at work this morning the city had a couple of crews out to cut down the 20 trees in the boulevard but it appears that they had also sent out a crew earlier to cut the grass. They cut down almost 100% of the marigolds and most of the calendula. I will try and figure out something to resolve this. June 10th, 2010Yesterday I spent a very pleasant hour with Liane Faulder from the Edmonton Journal. We were sampling menu items at Mill Creek Cafe that use Daiya Cheese (a vegan/lactose-Free cheese product made in Vancouver) instead of the usual cow cheese. Grilled Cheese sandwich, Margarita Pizza, Quesadilla, and Grilled Vegetable sandwich - Yum! June 1st, 2010Daiya Cheese is here in Edmonton at Earth's General Store. I received 360 pounds of Daiya vegan/lactose free cheese yesterday. 180 pounds of Mozzarella (Italian) and 180 pounds of Cheddar flavour. Both products are shredded.
